Morgan Sindall Construction has marked the start of construction on the new Broadford Primary School in the Isle of Skye, following a turf-cutting ceremony attended by pupils, stakeholders and community representatives.
Delivered in partnership with The Highland Council, the £21 million development represents a significant investment in modern, sustainable educational infrastructure for Broadford and the wider South Skye.
The project forms part of the Scottish Government’s Learning Estate Investment Programme (LEIP), which aims to deliver high-quality, digitally enabled, low-carbon learning environments across Scotland.
The new campus has been designed to Passivhaus classic standard, ensuring exceptional energy efficiency and supporting Highland Council’s ambitions to deliver future-proofed, environmentally responsible education facilities.
Construction is scheduled to complete by summer 2027. The development will include a new primary school, nursery/sgoil àraich, gym hall, public library and council service point, creating a central hub for learning and community activity.
A project to build a brand-new, all-weather, floodlit sports pitch will complement the school’s facilities.

The new school shows the enormous value in partnership and co-operation when it comes to delivering lasting change. The Highland Council, Scottish Government, community groups and parents have all worked together on this vital development, which is now going to become a reality.
