Ahmarra is one of the UK’s leading fire door specialists for education environments, having manufactured and installed 1000’s of doorsets for schools throughout London and the South East. With over 30 years’ experience, Ahmarra has developed sectorspecific ranges to aid design decisions and specification, including their Education Range, suitable for schools, colleges, universities and academies. Ahmarra also specialises in fire doors for the unique requirements of SEND schools.

Doors in education environments often have specific requirements, including certified fire & smoke protection, acoustic performance, enhanced durability, infection control, compatible ironmongery, accessibility, sustainability and finger protection.

Third-party Certification

It is vital that doors comply with legal safety standards, in order to protect lives and property. In school environments, where many users are children, fire doors play a vital role in preventing the spread of fire – maximising the time staff have to assist with safe evacuation. The best way to ensure that the doors meet the critical standards you require, is to specify that both the manufacturer and installer have independent, third-party certification.Ahmarra: Certified fire doors designed for education environments

Third-party certification means that the manufacturer/installer has undergone a rigorous audit and testing process conducted by an impartial specialist body. This involves having documented product specifications, installation instructions and controlled production processes.

Available with FD30(s), FD60(s) and FD90(s) fire and smoke ratings, Ahmarra’s doorsets have been independently tested by a UKAS accredited testing facility, and are certified under the BM TRADA Q-Mark Timber Fire Door Manufacture scheme.

Acoustic Performance

Doors help prevent noise passing from one classroom to another, creating an environment that supports learning. Sound resistance is achieved through a combination of specifically engineered door cores and optimal seal arrangements. The Education Range is available with 32 RwdB or 35 RwdB acoustic-ratings, or as non-acoustic rated. Performances up to 43 RwdB are available for high pressure laminate and veneered doors upon request.

Enhanced Durability

This robust range has been designed for longevity. Doors can be faced with high pressure laminate, which is impact, scratch and stain resistant. Available with protection plates, these severe-duty doorsets are resilient to the heavy traffic of school environments. Doors also feature lippings – a trim of solid wood applied to all four edges of the door – that protect the core and extend the door’s lifespan.

Infection Control

To help safeguard students, staff and visitors, and promote a sanitary environment, doorsets can be faced with Polyrey’s Sanitized® high pressure laminate. This laminate feature an anti-bacterial compound integrated throughout the material during manufacture, rather than just as a surface coating. This biocide effectively eliminates 99.9% of bacteria within 24 hours, helping to prevent the spread of infections.

Pre-hung Doorsets with Compatible Ironmongery

Supplied as complete pre-hung doorsets – door leaves are pre-hung within their frames and supplied with all essential hardware components (ironmongery, glazing systems, intumescent seals, drop down seals etc) factory fitted, as standard. Specifying doors as complete pre-assembled units minimises the need for on-site adjustments, making installation quicker and easier.

Accessibility

Providing equal access for disabled people is a necessity in public building design. The British Standards’ code of practice (BS 8300-2:2018) states that in order to meet the accessibility needs of those that are visually impaired, there must be a Light Reflectance Value (LRV) contrast of at least 30 points between building surfaces and their surrounding areas. To achieve this contrast, coloured laminates and wood veneer facings can be used to differentiate between doors, frames, ironmongery and their surroundings.

Sustainability

Ahmarra is an FSC® certified (FSC C018847) company, as such all of their timber doors and frames support responsible forestry.

Finger Protection

Thousands of people trap their fingers in doors every year, which can cause serious injury. This is particularly true in environments where young children are present such as infant and primary schools. Ahmarra’s timber doorsets are available with retro-fit finger protection or integral finger protection.

Installation

As part of Ahmarra’s supply & fit packages, they offer a Q-Mark Fire Door Installation service. Used to working in operational environments, their CHAS accredited installers are mindful to keep disruption to an absolute minimum and respectfully work around the building users’ needs.
