Take a video tour of ‘The Point’, the stunning £1.8m learning centre. Designed and built by TG Escapes, at The Oaks Specialist College in Tonbridge. A member of staff and a parent share their experience of this unique building project. This 435m² modular biophilic timber frame building has been created to support young adults (aged 18-25) with complex needs, enabling them to access high-quality education closer to home.
Purpose-Built for Independence: The facility features five flexible classrooms, a media suite for digital skills, and a specialist workshop equipped with a riser kitchen, ceiling track hoists, and accessible self-care facilities.
Biophilic Design: Large windows, skylights, and natural timber cladding connect learners with nature, creating a calm and inclusive environment that promotes wellbeing.
Sustainable & Efficient: Rated A* for energy efficiency, the building is carbon neutral in operation for regulated energy. Powered by renewable energy, it is projected to save over 3 tonnes of CO2 and up to £6,000 in running costs annually.
Community Impact: By expanding local capacity, this project is set to save the Local Authority approximately £1m per year by reducing the need for costly out-of-county placements.
Delivered in just 6 months using modern methods of construction (MMC), the project minimised disruption to the college, allowing education to continue seamlessly during the build.
